Coming up this week, performances from InterAct and Curio take the stage to tell impactful stories in honor of Black History Month. An Agatha Christie classic comes to the stage at the Players Club at Swarthmore, and EgoPo brings Broadway to South Philadelphia. Mural Arts Philly showcases their annual Fellowship for Black Artists creators and their works, and Paradigm Gallery opens an exhibition on dreams.
SOJOURNER
February 4-14
Curio Theatre Company, 4740 Baltimore Avenue
This one-woman play is based on the life of abolitionist, women’s rights activist, and author Sojourner Truth. Born into slavery in upstate New York shortly after the death of George Washington, Truth endured enslavement before making an escape to freedom. Now late in life, Truth recounts her journey in this performance written by Richard Lamont Pierce and performed by Zuhairah McGill.
Opening night is Friday, February 6, with previews running on February 4-5.
Gemini
February 4-15
Theatre Exile, 1340 South 13th Street
EgoPo brings Philly playwright Albert Innurato’s Gemini from Broadway to South Philly, a play that transports us to 1973 where Harvard student Francis Geminani returns home to South Philly for his 21st birthday, but two of his Ivy League friends crash the party and chaos ensues. The coming-out story about a South Philly kid forced to choose between his upbringing and his new Harvard persona runs previews February 4-5, with opening night on Friday, February 6 at 7pm.
Mural Arts Philadelphia’s Fellowship for Black Artists Annual Exhibition

Mural Arts showcases the works of the 2025 cohort of their Fellowship for Black Artists with over 30 pieces on view.
PLANTATION BLACK
February 6-March 1
Proscenium Theatre at the Drake, 302 South Hicks Street
InterAct Theatre Company presents the world premiere of PLANTATION BLACK, a new play that collides past and present to ask urgent questions about inheritance, power, and justice. Two centuries after a murky agreement binds a Civil War-era plantation family to the enslaved people working the land, the white and Black descendants must confront the past and determine who is the rightful heir.
Opening night is on Thursday, February 12.

Players Club of Swarthmore, 614 Fairview Road, Swarthmore, PA
PCS Theater’s production of the Agatha Christie murder mystery classic runs this week, telling the story of ten strangers who are summoned to a remote island and have a wicked past in common that they are unwilling to reveal.
PCS is a fully ADA compliant venue.
Branche Coverdale: Night, Night
February 6-March 1
Paradigm Gallery + Studio, 12 North 3rd Street
Muralist and fine artist Branche Coverdale’s new solo exhibition opens this weekend, with a focus on sleep and dream states. Coverdale captures both the calm and the magic of nighttime, creating moments of comfort while also confronting more unsettling experiences such as sleep paralysis, doppelgangers, and disorienting, maze-like subway stations.
A public reception will be held on First Friday this week from 6-8pm, and an immersive art and sound deep listening experience comes in tandem with the exhibit on Sunday, February 15.
