Voices of the Pinochet Regime at FringeArts
Eleven performers who were born during Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet’s regime in the 1970s and 1980s tell their families’ stories in Argentinian writer Lola Arias’s El Año en que nací / The year I was born. The show, performed in Spanish with English surtitles, along with live rock n’ roll, incorporates letters and photos to intertwine historic facts with true-life eyewitness stories from the era, when about 130,000 political dissidents were arrested and many tortured. Arias and the ensemble tell multicultural stories that explore the past and present, while the artist performers connect their parents’ experiences to their own futures.
El Año en que nací / The year I was born, by Lola Arias, is coming to FringeArts, 140. N. Columbus Blvd (at Race Street) from January 17 to 19. For tickets and more information, call 215-413-9006 or visit http://fringearts.ticketleap.com/el-ano-en-que-naci/.
