The Philadelphia Chamber Ensemble can put together any combination of instruments a composer dreams up, played by enthusiastic chamber players drawn from every section of the Philadelphia Orchestra. For their final concert of the season they’ve arranged a show that parades most of the colors and flair modern instruments can produce. They’ll start with a serenade for flute and harp by Vincent Persichetti and follow it with a pavane for flute, clarinet, and guitar; a bullfighter’s prayer for string quartet; a quintet for guitar and strings; and for a finale, Conradin Kreutzer’s Grand Septet for clarinet, bassoon, horn, string quartet, and double bass. The show will be followed by the Ensemble’s traditional cheerful reception, and the whole affair is presented twice, Friday evening and Sunday afternoon, so you have two chances to work around conflicts.

The Philadelphia Chamber Ensemble will present its spring finale on Friday, April 22 at 8pm and Sunday, April 24 at 2pm at Old Pine Street Presbyterian Church, 412 Pine Street, Philadelphia. Tickets are $25; $5 for students; and free for teens accompanying paying adult. Tickets are available online and at the door.
