The Goonies, Barry Lyndon, Wingsfest, and Just Another Girl on the I.R.T.
The BSR March 2026 repertory movie roundup
It may not seem that way, as we continue to have snow days, but spring is right around the corner. And our city’s repertory houses have jam-packed schedules this March, from classics of the 1970s, ‘80s, and ‘90s, as well as an unlikely tribute to a long character actor.
The highlights
The Goonies: 40th anniversary
Saturday, March 21, 7pm
The Keswick Theatre, 291 North Keswick Avenue, Glenside
The 1985 kid adventure, from director Richard Donner and a creative team that also included Steven Spielberg and Christ Columbus, technically marked its 40th anniversary last year, but it’s getting a 40th anniversary screening at the Keswick, complete with a Q&A featuring stars Corey Feldman and Kerri Green.
Barry Lyndon: Cinema Classics Seminar
Saturday, March 14, 12:30pm
Bryn Mawr Film Institute, 824 West Lancaster Avenue, Bryn Mawr
Stanley Kubrick’s 1975 drama, adapted from the 1844 novel by William Makepeace Thackeray, is one of his most acclaimed films. Now, it’s getting the BMFI seminar treatment, with Ray Saraceni of Eastern University introducing and discussing the film.
The four-and-a-half-hour seminar will “situate the film within the body of Kubrick’s work overall, paying particular attention to the formal and technical innovations that make this picaresque tale of lost innocence and hubristic boldness one of the cinema’s great achievements.”
Just Another Girl on the I.R.T.
Wednesday, March 18, 7pm
Bryn Mawr Film Institute, 824 West Lancaster Avenue, Bryn Mawr
BMFI is also hosting a special treat in mid-March: A 4K showing of this 1992 gem, about a young aspiring doctor in New York City (Ariyan A. Johnson) who discovers she’s pregnant. The film’s director, Leslie Harris, will be on hand for a post-screening Q&A, moderated by Vincent Williams and Len Webb of The Micheaux Mission podcast and Stephanye Watts of the Be Reel Black Cinema Club.
Wingsfest
Saturday, March 14, 6pm
PhilaMOCA, 531 North 12th Street, Philadelphia
No, PhilaMOCA is not reviving Wing Bowl. But what they are doing is paying tribute to the late character actor Wings Hauser on the first anniversary of his death. Wingsfest will include three feature films from throughout Hauser’s career, although exactly which films have not been disclosed. The five-hour program will also include “at least one television program and a surprise or two,” and they’re planning to make it an annual event.
