This week, a handful of concerts, exhibitions, and plays take the stage. The Halide Project’s Fractured Lands takes a (de)constructive look at landscape photography, the Photo Review hosts its Best of Show in Germantown, and Temple Contemporary remembers the historic Pyramid Club. A couple of Things open up courtesy of Resident Ensemble Players and Lantern Theater Company, and GayBingo! returns.
Bobby Zankel and the Soul of Sangha

This collaboration brings 12 improvisors together to serve as a catalyst for compositions inspired by indie rock, classical, and jazz in an evening-length suite of works.
The Real Thing by Tom Stoppard

St. Stephen’s Theater, 923 Ludlow Street
This comedy is about infidelity at play, on and off the stage. The Real Thing opens Lantern Theater Company’s 2025/26 season. The company is also running accompanying articles on Medium on the production during its run, including background on the play and its themes as well as behind-the-scenes conversations with the artists.
The Photo Review: Best of Show 2025

Woodmere showcases the winners of the 2025 International Photography Competition—the 40th anniversary of the annual competition. A free opening reception is set for Thursday, September 4 at 5:30-7:30pm.
Fractured Lands
September 5-October 19, 2025
The Halide Project, 1627 North 2nd Street
Fractured Lands brings together the work of artists Ella Morton and Dafna Talmor for a two-person exhibition that examines how photographic destruction becomes a generative act. Both artists begin with analog images of landscapes and then physically intervene in their materials to reconstruct new images that challenge traditional notions of landscape photography. The opening reception is Friday, September 5 at 5-8pm; and artist talks are scheduled for Monday, September 22 at 5pm and Monday, October 20 at 7pm.
Water Orchestra
September 5-October 3, 2025
Dilworth Park, 1 South 15th Street
Conduct music and water at this interactive installation at Dilworth Park outside of City Hall. The Philadelphia Orchestra and Center City District reimagines Dilworth Park’s fountain as a playful, responsive instrument, activated in real-time by the gestures of anyone who steps onto the conductor’s podium.
Pyramid Club: 1937–2035
September 5-December 19, 2025
Temple Contemporary, 2001 North 13th Street
The historic Pyramid Club, where civil rights leaders, scientists, and jazz legends gathered during segregation, is remembered at this new exhibition at Temple Contemporary. With over 30 paintings by artists linked to the Club, this exhibition reimagines it as a site of speculative liberation. An opening reception is this Friday, September 5, 5-7:30pm
Every Brilliant Thing

Resident Ensemble Players takes on a production of Every Brilliant Thing this week, telling the heartwrenching and heartwarming story of a young child helping their mother battle depression.
