Happy Pride to all who celebrate! With the unofficial start of summer already behind us, the city is coming alive. With plenty of events for America 250 and Pride Month, it’s looking to be a robust June. This week’s roundup features some standouts that I think might otherwise fly under your radar, including a new exhibition at Da Vinci Art Alliance, the return of the Sistah Soul Series, and a comedy cabaret from a pair of familiar faces.

My Bonnie lies over the ocean
June 2-21
Da Vinci Art Alliance, 704 Catharine Street

This solo exhibition by Philly-based Indian interdisciplinary artist Arnab Gan Choudhury is a case study in the preservation and reclamation of nostalgia. Raised in Kolkata and later relocating to the US, Choudhury layers together the complicated histories of his youth and early adulthood with references to logos found on Bengali public transit, school textbooks, and 90s pop culture. Utilizing crayons, colored pencils, and graphite, Choudhury etches characters into colorscapes that evoke the labyrinthian tracing of sensory experiences back to memory.

Opening night is Saturday, June 6 at 5-7pm. A film screening of Mira Nair’s The Namesake on June 12 and an artist workshop/closing ceremony is on Sunday, June 20.

Sistah Soul Series 2026
Friday, June 5, 6-9pm
Cherry Street Pier, 121 North Columbus Boulevard

Presented by Shekhinah B. of the Women’s Coalition for Empowerment, this free live music event brings together vocalists, poets, instrumentalists, and DJs for a night of R&B, jazz, soul, and improvisation on the Pier. The event series runs every first Friday of the month through October 2026.

Two Outta Three
June 5-21
People’s Light, 39 Conestoga Road, Malvern

This comedy cabaret comes from the minds of Jennifer Childs and Scott Greer, telling a story about what happens when life shifts and the nest empties. Blending comedy, music, and storytelling, the show follows a couple rediscovering themselves—and each other—after their only child leaves home to start their own life. An increased access performance will be June 14, featuring open captioning, American Sign Language, and audio descriptions, with a pre-show sensory tour before the show where guests can interact with costume and prop elements and ask questions.

Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival
June 5-August 16
Franklin Square, 200 North 6th Street

Celebrate the Year of the Horse with glowing landscapes, illuminated sculptures, brand new lanterns, live performances, choreographed light shows, food and drink offerings, and more.

The Naked Comedy Show
June 6, 7pm and 9pm
The Velvet Whip Arts & Social Club, 319 North 11th Street

The Naked Comedy Show returns with body-positivity and punchlines just in time for pride. The show is led by comedian Billy Procida, host of The Manwhore Podcast, which features sex-positive conversations.

Semiquincentennial Event Series at Laurel Hill Mansion
Various dates
Laurel Hill Mansion, 3487 Edgley Drive

In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, Women for Greater Philadelphia will present a series of cultural, historical, and community programs. First up is the Red, White, & Blooms 250th celebration garden party on Saturday, June 6, a festive afternoon featuring live music, curated refreshments, and themed experiences celebrating the spirit of 1776 in an outdoor setting. Voices of Laurel Hill Mansion follows up on June 13—an original immersive theatrical production that introduces audiences to five historical figures connected to the mansion, offering personal perspectives on the Revolutionary era and the human experiences behind the nation’s founding. More events are slated throughout the summer.
