Top Gun, Moonstruck, GayBINGO, Airplane, and more
The BSR May 2026 repertory movie roundup
This month, Top Gun celebrates its 40th anniversary as it hits the screens in mid-May. Then, Bryn Mawr Film Institute hosts a Cinema Classics seminar as it revisits Norman Jewison’s Moonstruck. And another classic comedy Airplane! takes flight with a Q&A from a pair of stars from the movie. GayBINGO wraps up the month, and there are plenty of other highlights to keep Philly’s movie buffs happy.

Tony Scott’s 1986 action classic, featuring Tom Cruise as Navy pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell winning in the skies and on the beach volleyball court, turns 40 this year, and it’s getting a big re-release—including some dates as a double feature with the 2022 sequel Top Gun: Maverick. Tom Cruise announced the re-releases himself.
Moonstruck (Cinema Classics Seminar)

Bryn Mawr Film Institute, 824 East Lancaster Avenue, Broomall
Norman Jewison’s film, starring Cher, Nicholas Cage, and Danny Aiello as an Italian-American love triangle in New York, is one of the most beloved romantic comedies of the 1980s, and it’s coming to BMFI as part of a Cinema Classics Seminar hosted by Rachel McCabe of LaSalle University.
