The Philadelphia Chamber Music Society brings world-renowned chamber ensembles to Philadelphia, but the globetrotting visitors know they can draw on our pool of local talent when they add a guest star. The Orion Quartet will open their PCMS appearance with a Mozart quartet for oboe and strings featuring one of the best known oboists in the world — Richard Woodhams, the Principal Oboe of the Philadelphia Orchestra. The rest of their program looks attractive, too. They’ll follow the Mozart with a quartet by Leon Kirchner, an American individualist who’s become one of their specialties. They’ll finish with one of Beethoven’s endlessly explorable late quartets, Opus 127, the Quartet in E-Flat Major.

The Orion Quartet concert will take place on Sunday, January 10 at 3pm at the Perelman Theater, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Broad and Spruce Streets, Philadelphia. Tickets ($24) are available online or by calling 215-569-8080.
