Metropolitan Opera stars usually sing with a piano accompaniment when they present chamber recitals. Mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano is adding some extra sonic color and teaming with the Met’s top oboist, cellist, and pianist. For her recital for the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, she’ll sing pieces like Brahms’s darkly beautiful viola songs (with the cello substituting for the viola accompaniment) and Vaughan Williams’s songs for oboe and tenor. Rafael Figueroa will play Debussy’s unbeatable cello sonata. Nathan Hughes will take on Henri Dutilleux’s challenging oboe sonata.

The Philadelphia Chamber Music Society will present mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano, along with Nathan Hughes on the oboe, Rafael Figueroa on the cello; and Ken Noda on the piano on Sunday, May 14, at 3pm at the American Philosophical Society, Benjamin Franklin Hall, 427 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia. Tickets are $25 and they’re available online and at the door.
