Coming up in Philly music: Juking at the Holy Trinity

They’re calling it a Classical Jukebox, but don’t let the title fool you. It’s a jukebox because the program lists 12 solos and chamber pieces for strings, winds, and piano created by hit composers like Bach, Shostakovich, and Schumann, with a Vivaldi concerto for two trumpets as the grand finale. The musicians are all members of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, with their former conductor, Ignat Solzhenitsyn, contributing his formidable talents as a pianist.

The occasion is a benefit for the Holesovsky Musicians' Fund, set up in honor of the late cellist James Holesovsky, a founding member of the Chamber Orchestra and a musician noted for his concern for his colleagues. Contributions for the fund pay for “Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and Philadelphia-area musician fees for performances and special projects each season.” For many of us, it’s a chance to hear the COP musicians play another concert at the Church of the Holy Trinity, where they presented a popular Baroque series in the decades before they moved to the Kimmel Center.

The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia will present Classical Jukebox on January 11 at 7pm at the Church of the Holy Trinity on Rittenhouse Square. Tickets are $25 and they’re available online and at the door.
