Coming up in Philly music: A month with Mimi
The city hasn’t declared June “Mimi Stillman Month,” but it could. Stillman’s June schedule includes two concerts with her Dolce Suono Ensemble (DSE), dubbed Music in the Second Capital and three contributions to a faculty concert presented as part of the Curtis Institute’s Summerfest program. She’ll also be coaching the amateur and professional musicians who enroll in Summerfest for advanced training in chamber music. For Music in the Second Capital, there will be an afternoon of popup performances on Saturday, June 3, combining Stillman’s flute with Gideon Whitehead’s guitar to play music from the birth years of the American republic. On June 14, a DSE quartet presents a second event featuring more music from that storied period. The Curtis concert is scheduled for June 10, and Dolce Suono will wrap up the month on Sunday, June 25, with the first concert in the annual Concerts by Candlelight series in Fairmount Park's homey Laurel Hill Mansion.
Dolce Suono Ensemble will present Music in the Second Capital on two days in June: Five free popup concerts on Saturday, June 3 from noon to 4:30pm at the Second Bank of the United States (420 Chestnut Street) and other nearby historic sites (visit online for the full list of times and locations) and on June 14 at 6pm at Old Pine Street Presbyterian Church (412 Pine Street). Tickets are free.
On Saturday, June 10 at 7:30pm, the Curtis Institute of Music presents its Summerfest faculty concert at its Field Concert Hall (1726 Locust Street). Tickets are $25 and they’re available online or by calling 215-893-7902. The Laurel Hill Concerts by Candlelight show takes place 6:30pm on June 25 at the Laurel Hill Mansion, Randolph Drive, East Fairmount Park. Tickets are $25 and they’re available online or by calling 215-235-1776.
