Choral Arts, the Juilliard Quartet, Pauline Yang, and more

Choral Arts Philadelphia continues its Bach Cantata Series with the performance of old and new works, including Bach’s Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan and Cantata 12, (Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen), along with Rosalind Page’s Einziges Lied, set to The Sonnets to Orpheus: First Book #19 by Rainer Maria Rilke. Page makes use of material from Bach Cantatas 61, 70, and 36. The concert features Geoffrey Burgess on oboe d’amore, as well as Bryan DeSilva, alto; Jeffrey Cutts, tenor; and Jean Bernard Cerin, bass, all under the direction of Matthew Glandorf. The concert will be held November 4 at 7pm at St. Clement’s Church, 20th and Cherry Streets, Philadelphia. There are no advance sales for the Cantata Series: just a pay-what-you-wish suggested contribution of $20 at the door.

The Juilliard String Quartet makes its first appearance of the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society’s 2015-16 season with two classics and a world premiere. They’ll play the Mozart “Dissonance Quartet” in C Major, K. 465 and Debussy’s Quartet in G Minor, Op. 10. Philadelphia composer Richard Wernick has been commissioned by PCMS to write his ninth string quartet to round out this performance. A free pre-concert lecture at 6:45pm by James Primosch is included. It will be held at the Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, 300 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia, on Friday, November 6 at 8pm.

Cellist Lynn Harrell collaborates with pianist Pauline Yang in a concert featuring works by Schumann, Bach, Debussy, and Chopin. The concert will be held in Roberts Hall, Marshall Auditorium at Haverford College, 370 Lancaster Avenue, Haverford, on Sunday, November 8 at 3pm. Tickets are $20 (General), $15 (Senior), and $5 (Student).
