For Philly summer-lovers who want to do more than hit one of the city beer gardens that seem to have popped up every block or so by this year, the Academy of Natural Sciences and the Wagner Free Institute of Science are teaming up to offer something new.

Broad to Schuylkill is a chance for you and up to four of your best friends to tear around the city on a July Saturday, exploring some of our top arts and culture institutions, gaining new knowledge, and taking a shot at glory on social media and in real life.

Broad to Schuylkill is an ages-21-and-over scavenger hunt happening with the help of 13 different institutions on July 9. According to the organizers, all tasks of the hunt, which are open to teams of up to five people, “relate to the city’s cultural heritage, history, and architecture.”

Participants shouldn’t be afraid to get physical, tackle local trivia, sojourn on SEPTA, and scour microfilm collections. Many additional partnering organizations are providing scavenger hunt “challenges,” including the Mural Arts Program, the Franklin Institute, PAFA, the Rosenbach Museum, the Mütter Museum, and many more.

Online registration for the event ($20/person) is available up until July 2. The day will kick off with check-in at the Academy of Natural Sciences at 11:30am on July 9. Nobody is allowed to skip the orientation and rules review at 12:30. Teams will be unleashed at 12:45. (Hunters will not have to pay museum admissions to enter to complete challenges.)

Participants will get a list of challenges to complete within the scavenger hunt zone. Avid Instagrammers, this is your moment: points are awarded and tracked when teams post pictures of completed challenges on Instagram.

To qualify for three top prizes, teams must also surrender their question and answer sheets at the after-party at Frankford Hall by 5pm on the day of the hunt. Winners will be announced there, among a celebration of “all things Philly culture.” Prizes will include gift items, discounts and tickets, and memberships to participating organizations.
