On Sunday, August 18, at Johnny Brenda’s, Beat Society makes its return. With a packed lineup, including 4 Horsemen Ratchet GXDS, Detroit producer/remixer Tall Black Guy, live performances from Aime and Tokunbo, and Philly’s own DJ RocDaSpot on the wheels of steel, the latest edition of Beat Society promises to be a music lover's dream.

In the fall of 2002, Philly-based MC/producer Hezekiah, along with hosts Stef Tataz and SAO launched an event series unlike any other in hip-hop history. Hosted at the legendary (and now defunct) Old City venue The Five Spot, Beat Society would be the first event of its kind, a live hip-hop show that focused on the music’s producers.

In the 17 years since its inaugural edition, Beat Society has highlighted the work of many producers, DJs and artists including future stars like Kanye West, Diplo, Illmind, and more. A far cry from traditional hip-hop shows, Beat Society made its mark by allowing producers to bring their gear onstage and perform the tracks they’ve created live in front of an audience. For many, Beat Society would be the first time they got a chance to see hip-hop producers in their element in real time.

What, When, Where:

Beat Society is Sunday, August 18, 2019, Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 Frankford Avenue. The doors open at 8pm and the show is at 9pm, and tickets are $15.
