This week in Philly music: Back to the House of Lancaster
Zoltán Fejervári and Kuok-Wai Lio present a concert for two pianos under the auspices of the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society. The program will include Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Piano Sonata in D Major, Op. 28; Schumann’s Nachstucke, Op. 23; Mozart’s Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major, K. 448; and Schumann’s Six Studies in Canon Form, Op. 56, arranged by Claude Debussy. The concert will take place Tuesday, November 17 at 8pm at the Curtis Institute of Music, 1726 Locust Street, Philadelphia. Tickets are $24. PCMS also hosts London’s Elias Quartet this week in a program featuring Haydn’s Quartet in C Major, Op. 54, No. 2; Schumann’s Quartet in F Major, Op. 41, No. 2; and Beethoven’s Quartet in C Major, Op. 59, No. 3. The concert will be held at the Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, 300 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia, on Wednesday, November 18 at 8pm. Tickets are $10-24.
The Concert Artist Series at Haverford College hosts the Binchois Consort, the famed early music vocal ensemble in a program entitled “Henry V and the House of Lancaster.” The concert will feature music of Henry’s reign, including state motets, music composed specifically for Lancastrian coronations, and even a Gloria written by Henry himself. The concert will be held on Sunday, November 22 at 3pm in Founders Great Hall at Haverford College, 370 Lancaster Avenue, Haverford. Tickets are $20 (general), $15 (seniors), $10 (students), and $5 (ages 7-17).
