The 2016 Black Friday Comedy Marathon threatens to keep you up at night
At Philly Improv Theater’s (PHIT) Black Friday Comedy Marathon 2015, things got weird, but not so weird that I wouldn’t recommend your post-turkey mobilization to the Adrienne for the third anniversary of this really, really, really long Philly comedy geek lovefest.
According to PHIT, “We’ve done this twice before and nobody has died.” I’m not sure what else you really need to know, but here are some more details.
Things begin with Black Friday Comedy Marathon (BFCM) hosts Hey We’re Cool at 9am on Friday, November 25. And the comedy acts, including improv, stand-up, sketch, and variety shows, roll on from there, ranging in length from about five to 25 minutes, until the last act on Sunday, November 27 at 12:40am.
That’s 40 hours in all — the longest BFCM yet.
Admission is simple. $10 for a BFCM wristband gets you into any performance during the Marathon (whenever seating is available). And if you have shopping to do between November 21 and 26, do it at a local small business in Center City, spend $10 or more, hold on to your receipt, and then trade your receipt in at the PHIT box office for a free wristband good for full admission to the Marathon.
Marathon hosts Hey We’re Cool will be in residence for the duration, along with BSR contributor and social media mastermind Neil Bardhan, who will be live-tweeting as @BFCM2016. You can catch Neil onstage throughout Saturday, including a stint at 2:45am called Two Late…No, Really, It’s Two Fucking Late with Rob and Joe, the Hot Sauce Challenge at 6:50am, a family-friendly performance with The N Crowd at 11:40am, and with local improv stand-outs American Express at 3:35pm.
Other appearances will include PHIT favorites Dirty Laundry and People of Interest, and over 30 stand-up comedians. On Friday at 2:45pm you can see the sketch show Promoting Corporate Synergy or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Mysterious Fog That Is Enveloping the Town. On Saturday at 7:15am, it’s Polite Erotic Fiction by Rob O’Neill. Half an hour later, catch Modern Icarus: The Ken Bone Story.
And (you get it) so much more.
Last year, the BFCM masterminds embroiled a local pizza shop, an Atlantic City casino, and of course, the audience in their shenanigans. What will 2016 bring?
PHIT’s Black Friday Comedy Marathon 2016 is coming up at the Adrienne Theater (2030 Sansom Street) from 9am on Friday, November 25 to 12:40am on Sunday, November 27. Here’s the Facebook event. Here’s the full schedule. Beginning November 25 at 8:30am, get your pass in advance online here, or at the door.
