1807 & Friends presents one of the oldest and liveliest chamber music series in the city. The musicians are mostly Philadelphia Orchestra musicians who play chamber music because they like doing it. For its May concert from the Friends, the Wister Quartet will team with one of Philadelphia’s leading pianists, Cynthia Raim, in a program devoted to pioneering works. The string quartets on the program are both pieces by two of the first masters of the string quartet form, Haydn and Boccherini. The finale will be one of the most popular pieces in the repertory, Schumann’s quintet for piano and string quartet, the first major work composed for that high-powered combination and still one of the best.

1807 & Friends will present the Wister Quartet with Cynthia Raim on piano on May 8 at 7:30pm at the Academy of Vocal Arts, 1920 Spruce Street, Philadelphia. Tickets are $20 and they’re available online, by calling 215-438-4027 or 215-978-0969, and at the door.
