Piffaro’s Christmas program is always one of the highlights of the holiday season. The 2016 version should be a worthy successor to the Don Quixote spectacular that started Piffaro’s season. Piffaro’s Renaissance band instruments radiate a glow that suits the season. This year they’ll be blended with the sounds produced by two attractive guest artists: an expressive young soprano, Philadelphia native Jessica Beebe, and a brass ensemble, Dark Horse Consort, that specializes in the music of the late Renaissance and the early Baroque. The program will continue Piffaro’s season-long Spanish theme with a festive mix of dances, religious music, and popular Christmas songs from 17th Century Spain and its outposts in the New World.

Piffaro will present La Nochebuena on Friday, December 16 at 7:30pm at Trinity Center for Urban Life, 22nd and Spruce, Philadelphia; Saturday, December 17 at 7:30pm at the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill, 8855 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia; and Sunday, December 18 at 3:30pm at Immanuel Church Highlands, Wilmington. Tickets ($29-$49; youth and full time students free) are available at the door, by calling 215-235-8469, and online.
