For Philadelphia chamber music enthusiasts, the summer months can seem like a long trek across a denuded landscape. The only oasis is the Concerts by Candlelight series, which presents chamber music in a real chamber — the living room of the Laurel Hill Mansion in Fairmount Park. Sunday evening, July 13, the featured performers will be flutist Mimi Stillman, mezzo-soprano Misoon Ghim, and classical guitarist Gideon Whitehead, playing music by Bach, John Dowland, Argentine tango master Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992), and other notable music makers. Piazzolla’s presence on the musical roster means the festivities will probably include one of Ms. Stillman’s virtuoso renditions of the world’s most elegant bar music.

Concerts by Candlelight will present the Dolce Suono Ensemble on Sunday, July 13 at 6:30pm at the Laurel Hill Mansion, East Edgley Drive, East Fairmount Park, Philadelphia. Tickets are $25, and they can be ordered at 215-643-7923. For more information, visit http://laurelhillmansion.org/Pages/concerts.html.
