Philadelphia dance professional Roger Lee (also a BSR contributor) didn’t want to wait for someone else to invent the dance celebration he wanted to see for Black History Month, so he developed it himself for Roger Lee Dance’s latest concert series. His Black History Celebration Concert, premiering February 21, has already been featured on 6 ABC (watch the segment here).

The 25-year-old Lee, an alum of Ursinus College and Drexel University, features his own new choreography as well as pieces from several others in the show, including Diane Matthews, Sonia James Pennington, Michael Nguyen, Areal Bell, Kamali Hill, and Ronnique Murray. Through dance, the performance touches on slavery, segregation, integration, and contemporary culture, with soul, pop, and rock influences. The live-music show is appropriate for all ages.

The Roger Lee Dance Black History Celebration is coming up on Friday, February 21 and Saturday, February 22 at 8pm at the The Performance Garage, 1515 Brandywine Street, Philadelphia. Tickets are $20 at the door and $18 in advance online. For tickets and more information, visit rogerleedance.com.
