Darnelle dives into Bristol Riverside Theatre's new production of Jelly's Last Jam
The BSR Podcast: Talking with Jelly's Last Jam director Tyrone L. Robinson
Bristol Riverside Theatre in Bucks County has been gearing up to present the regional premiere of Jelly's Last Jam, the Tony-winning musical about the life of Jelly Roll Morton, the self-proclaimed inventor of jazz, featuring music by Morton and Luther Henderson, a book by George C. Wolfe, and lyrics by Susan Birkenhead.
Director Tyrone L. Robinson takes listeners behind the scenes, sharing a surprise from the audition room when Broadway Aladdin alum Stanley Martin tried out for the title role, the real-life history of a building that was a church by day and a juke joint by night, and secrets of the cast's creative process. It's a great listen for theater fans as well as jazz lovers who want a window on the Black artistry this show celebrates. Jelly's Last Jam is running at Bristol Riverside Theatre March 31-April 26, 2026. Get your tix, and look out for a BSR review from critic An Nichols.
