After all my carping about the Philadelphia Orchestra (see, most recently, "The Orchestra's inane marketing"), I am happy to report that the Orchestra's newly-announced 2010-2011 season is the most attractive I have seen in years, a felicitous blend of standard repertory and new music.
Who would have thought we'd ever get to hear the music of Arvo Pärt, J.S. Bach and Anton Bruckner on the same program?
The lineup includes, for a change, a variety of works by Stravinsky, including a truly blockbuster pairing of his Symphony of Psalms and Beethoven's Ninth, and many works by living composers.
Check it out on the Orchestra's website.
