Carolyn Merritt (she/her) is an anthropologist and dancer, and the author of Tango Nuevo. A 2016 National Critics Institute Fellow, she has written about dance and culture in Dance Chronicle, thINKing DANCE, TDF Stages, Dance Chronicle, and more.

Carolyn Merritt (Ph.D., anthropology) is a lifelong dancer who became hooked when she discovered Argentine tango. The author of Tango Nuevo and a 2016 National Critics Institute Fellow, her writings on dance and culture have appeared in Dance Chronicle, thINKingDANCE, TDF Stages, and more. Carolyn lives in Philadelphia, where she works as a writer and ethnographer, teaches yoga, and bakes desserts.
