Some members of our arts community were remarking on social media last week that they couldn't find any Fringe Festival reviews this year, with one exception: BSR. Other outlets may be in the fray with us to some extent, and some arts journalists are building their own platforms, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find more comprehensive Philly Fringe coverage than what we've got cooking at BSR, not to mention the other openings we're continuing to cover this September.
Review writing isn't just a matter of opinions and recommendations. Reviews, when they're done right, are an expert first-hand record of our cultural scene, capturing the work of our artists and preserving it in a publicly accessible way for years to come -- especially important for theater, that most ephemeral of art forms. The best artists are always on the vanguard of society: they reflect us, challenge us, entertain us, warn us, connect us, and Philly's artists are no different. They deserve professional critical discourse. They deserve to see their work captured in our cultural conversations. And arts-going readers deserve the curation, context, entertainment, and food for thought that arts critics provide.
When you read and share BSR, and especially when you support us with your donations, you're keeping that essential cultural conversation alive. Dive into this week's reviews below!
