We started an annual tradition at BSR back in 2019, and we like it just fine. We are a small team (two editors, a proofreader, a podcaster, an executive director, a publisher, and a social-media manager), and there really aren't enough of us to stagger our time off. So each year, when the arts calendar is...if not quiet, somewhat calmer than it is for the rest of the year, we take two weeks to rest.
This year, our vacation falls August 5-18. What does that mean for our readers? We won't be posting any new stories in that time. But keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram feeds, where we'll be spotlighting some of our top evergreen reads. And if you're missing us, I recommend heading to our essays channel, or perusing our book reviews.
This chance for us to recharge is important, especially as the new arts season barrels down on us, including the ever-expanding Fringe. As always, we're excited to bring you this coverage in September, but it takes a lot of planning! If you value what we do, it's a great time of year to donate and support our hardworking writers.
This week, we have a second look at lighting design, this time with a dance lens, because it's high time more of these designers got the spotlight. Plus, we review a new exhibition featuring the famous Atwater Kent Collection and a circus-flavored Hamlet. We also head to FRIEDA's Old City gallery, which is highlighting the overlap between fine art and tattoo.
Thanks for sticking with us through this unprecedented American summer!
