The Black punk music scene is one that I've wanted to tap more into over the last few years. I've found a few artists and bands that I've really connected with, but I'd love to find more. Growing up, I was often told that punk, metal, alt rock, and all that were "just for white people," which didn't make much sense because some of my friends who weren't white were forming bands and making music. How could it not be for us, too, if it's right there in front of me? A new documentary by musician Dante Foley, UPFRONT W/ BLACK PUNKS VOL. 1, screens this weekend, which records Black punk and metal artists' experiences from the 90s until today.
