This is the last newsletter you'll be receiving from me at BSR, as this week is my last week as the associate editor. I can't believe it's been just about eight years—nearly a decade—of work that I've been a part of and contributed. What a journey it's been; meeting new people, creators, artists, shakers, and movers, connecting deeper with the ones I've come to know, and having the space to articulate and curate along with them. Reading Alaina's editorial about me was quite staggering for me, actually. I didn't quite realize just how much I've done here with my time at BSR. Truly, I wasn't ever here for my own personal glory. I just wanted to help connect the dots for everyone else. Sometimes you don't realize how much of an impact you can have on people's lives (creative, professional, and sometimes even personal ones). Even now in this moment, I still don't think it's truly hit me. But I'm going to let that wash over me the rest of the summer and into the fall. Besides, I'm not quite gone yet! I'll be in the background helping out with transitioning the role to the new associate editor and providing editorial assistance to Alaina.
We've got a robust lineup for the last week of July before BSR goes into vacation mode for the first two weeks of August. We profile Anne Minich, who has decades of creative works under her belt. We also take a look at Ted Linden's and his film You Are Here, which may give you some Backrooms vibes. Yo Adrienne! gets all the laughs at its improv festival, and this week's roundup has my picks for this year's BlackStar Film Festival. Don't forget our columns for film screenings, classical music, and dance events happening throughout the month in the area.
