I feel like every time I hit the middle of the week, I’m wrestling with whether or not I want to touch on the week’s tragedy in the newsletter—whether it’s a mass shooting, rights being revoked, Covid-19 cases, racial violence, the list unfortunately goes on. We’re inundated enough from other outlets, social media, the news, and our daily conversations, too. I ask myself every week if I want to make the space for what's happening or if I want to diffuse it by emphasizing what's coming up in the arts instead. I can’t pretend it’s all okay, though—whenever I try and it probably comes out inauthentic. I feel like now is not the time to pretend, but that’s a conversation for a later time. But goodness, I'm tired and I know I'm not the only one.
Whatever the case may be, week to week, many of us are left constantly processing what’s happening around us while also tending to our relentless responsibilities. I hope you find some reprieve whenever the world weighs heavier on you.
