If your vacation responder is on starting today or tomorrow, good for you! We hope you'll enjoy this week's reviews before logging off for awhile and spending the holiday weekend in a way that restores you ahead of the year's hectic final month.
Obviously Thanksgiving weekend is busy for a lot of us -- retail workers are starting their annual marathon, and some folks, like healthcare providers, can't just leave the office for a few days. Some people will enjoy family gatherings and some will avoid them, or celebrate with friends. Some people will spend hours in the kitchen turning out a feast. And a lot of us will be shopping. If you can, skip Amazon and Target and head to a small business in your neighborhood. I'm lucky in East Passyunk, where I can hit all kinds of locally owned stores for everything from books to gourmet snacks to toys. I really recommend a stroll down Passyunk Avenue between Dickinson and McKean -- it's crammed with the cutest stores and some great restaurants.
But all that said, we hope the weekend holds some relaxation for you, and positive connections. If you're looking for an outing, don't miss this week's reviews. Our writers are heading to A Christmas Carol at People's Light, the Museum of the American Revolution for The Declaration's Journey, and AAMP for a lavish exhibition of costumes by Ruth E. Carter, including outfits from Black Panther, Amistad, Roots, Do the Right Thing, Sinners, and lots more. Plus, we take you inside some of the latest research on the impacts of murals on our public space -- I was surprised by some of the findings.
