I remember sometime around the late 2010s I found myself reading articles frequently and saying out loud: this isn't from the Onion? This is real? The line had become so blurred that I couldn't recognize the difference between the absurdities of reality and the ones of fiction. That blurriness continues to swell, and this week, one of our writers sat down with author Jo Piazza ahead of her new book Everyone Is Lying To You. The novel pulls from the very real "traditional wives" trend (are we calling it a trend?) and pours it all into a fantastical beach read.
When I first stumbled upon tradwife content on social, I was laughing. I thought it was satire. And then it kept going. And then I read the comments. And then I turned off the internet for the rest of the day.
Anyways, enough picking on people. This week, we've also got our Interludes outlining music throughout the area for the summer, and the roundup features some new exhibitions, artists talks, soundscapes, and more to keep you grounded in the reality (and the fiction) you want for you.
Be real, Philly!
