We're days into the aftermath of one of the biggest winter storms the city has seen in the last ten years, and we're also deeper into an incredibly difficult and devastating point in history. This week, we saw Councilmembers announce legislation to protect Philadelphia from ICE. The week before, MAGA dismantled an exhibition documenting slavery at Independence National Historic Park—just before it fully reopens after months of reconstruction (which overlapped with a long-running government shutdown). This winter storm and how its lingering and impacting the city feels a lot like how it feels existing: it's stuck here for a while, it's firmly in the way, and it doesn't feel like there are enough solutions put into practice for change.
The storm is here and it isn't leaving for a while. Now, more than ever, though, is the time to keep pushing for the right solutions and practices. Certainly, there's hope, but please be careful out there—whether you're traversing in the snow going to and fro, or you're out protesting or fighting however you have the capacity to fight.
