This heat is a big deal, right? I’m trying not to think about it too much—I like to think I’m a pretty courageous dude, but one of the things that really gets me shaking in my Tims is global warming. Does anyone else remember it being this hot? This noticeably hot? It’s got me discouraged: there are so many outdoor events happening in the city this time of year, but I’m not always confident I can beat the heat and join in. How much warmer will the summers of our future be? Will it keep us separate somehow? Is it already happening? See, it’s not just about the actual heat itself, but also what happens to people mentally and emotionally.
I’ve written about summer SADD here, and this summer has been its own unique battle. Embracing loss, rapid, unexpected changes, and the inevitable growth and grief therein (I swear, growth and grief are cousins and go hand-in-hand) all tinge the way the sun hits your skin. I’m dealing—no worries about me here—but it does have me thinking about how important community is. I’m looking forward to some tolerable temperatures and good times, but it’s interesting to consider how the seasons truly impact the way we engage with each other and with ourselves.
But there’s hope—this week’s roundup has plenty of indoor and outdoor events. Today, I choose to maintain that feeling that things will work out.
Hope you’re staying cool.
