We at BSR don't do too much sports coverage (obviously), but there's definitely some overlap between sports and the arts, especially in Philly, where murals of our favorite players and mascots abound. And as artists at InterAct noted on the BSR Podcast last year, Philly is a pretty unique scene for audiences because many arts-goers are also sports fans.
Whether you've been an Eagles fan for decades through thick and thin (like Kyle), or you just like it when the city is happy (like me), if you read BSR, we're betting you'll be rooting for the Eagles this Sunday. We hope you enjoy this special-edition essay from Kyle.
We also want to take this chance to thank everyone who has joined the ranks of our donors over the last few months. Whether you're a one-time donor, a Friend of BSR (one $60 donation or $5/month) or a Local Media Champion ($20/month), you are keeping our writers paid and keeping arts media alive in Philly. Here's more info about giving to BSR, if you're curious.
Arts coverage gets us out of the comment section and into the real world, where we encounter new worldviews, new stories, and new reasons to embrace empathy and action in the hardest times. When you support an independent arts journalism outlet like BSR, that is a small but sustainable and POWERFUL action you can take against the forces trying to capture our government and stamp out trans people, disabled people, women, immigrants, and so many others.
If you're heading to an Eagles party this weekend, or a Philly bar, or just turning on the TV with your loved ones, we hope you feel the same sense of connection and community pride that the arts can give us. Help keep that feeling going by joining our donors' community.
GO BIRDS!
