FIND NEIL The Beatles Bread Basket Benefit for PACS WHEN: Saturday, October 1 WHERE: Steel City Coffeehouse and Brewery WHY: My father-in-law Alan Stewart sings and plays guitar a couple times a year in concerts at this lively Phoenixville venue. I love how the organizers turn this show of Beatles tunes into a benefit. Plus, the emphasis is on listening to the music despite the relaxed setting, which means a lot less distracting crowd noise.
FIND ALAINA AND GAIL OBENREDER Black Lodge WHEN: Sunday, October 2 WHERE: Philadelphia Film Center WHY: This co-presentation from Opera Philadelphia, part screening and part “industrial rock opera concert” combining William S. Burroughs, dance, rock, a classical quartet, and opera into a “Lynchian psychological escape room” is way outside my usual arts picks. So I’m going to check it out with BSR critic Gail Obenreder.
