Thanks to everyone who signed up for last week's review-writing webinars! More than 70 people registered, many of whom joined us live for two of our best community conversations yet. The response to these events makes one thing clear to us: we should continue to develop educational programming that makes journalism more transparent and more accessible to artists, aspiring writers, readers, and audiences. Both webinars were recorded and are now available for a suggested $25 donation. Follow up with Neil ([email protected]) if you'd like to access them.
This week, we're heading to Wilmington, where Delaware Shakespeare mounts a new adaptation of Twelfth Night that imagines the shipwrecked twins washing up on a country like the United States without documentation. Critic An Nichols says the show delivers effective commentary without sacrificing the lightness or enjoyment of this canonical comedy. Wednesday nights are pay-what-you-will!
We're also looking to Fairmount Park, where Swoop and other Eagles celebrities will be joining the Philadelphia Orchestra for a special concert featuring clips from the most recent Super Bowl-winning season. Stephen Silver, who's been following sports and the arts here for 20 years, reflects on how highbrow cultural elements like the orchestra are increasingly mixing with sports fandom thanks to long-awaited wins that unite our city.
Looking ahead, we'll be bringing you coverage of Shakespeare in Clark Park (opening tonight!), and Kyle will be with you tomorrow to get the weekend started. And our team is looking forward to our much-needed annual break over the first two weeks of August. I hope there's a rest on the horizon for you, as well.
