It’s getting cold quick around here! But I have to say, I was hit with a wave of sadness when I heard that it’s been nearly 700 days—about 676 days as of me writing this newsletter—that the city of Philly has seen more than an inch. Last time was January 22, 2022. As a winter baby who thrives this time of year, I can’t help but think about how much the big little things, like the weather, have an impact on our mood. Some people miss the heat or the spring (not for nothing, I like all the seasons), but I’m hoping this chill that has settled in brings us some snow this season.
But that’s a personal wish. I’ve been out and about in the city lately and find myself worried about folks who are unhoused. I also know how real winter SADD is. The holidays can be a truly difficult time for those who have lost loved ones, or simply don’t celebrate. The empathy peaks this time of year, too, so despite my joy, there’s plenty of sadness during these months that I carry. I’m trying to find the balance.
Music helps. This week has an assortment of musical offerings from PHILADANCO!, Dorrance Dance, the Philadelphia Orchestra, new nerd space Multiverse, and much more.
Stay warm, Philly. And I wish you and yours the very best.
