It's a busy week for our team. On Monday, I headed to Temple to speak with journalism undergrads about the work of being an arts editor. At noon ET today (Wednesday Feb 11), I'll be joining the Philadelphia Public Relations Association for their latest Pitch Perfect session via Zoom. It's free for PPRA members and just $5 for the rest of us. And tomorrow, Kyle and I will be recording an episode of The Signal podcast with the editor of The Bucks County Beacon.
And yes, we're getting reviews up, too! This week our reviewers headed to West Philly for a presentation of a popular play based on the life of Sojourner Truth, to South Philly for a show set in a rowhouse backyard in 1976, and to the Academy of Music for the highly anticipated world premiere of Complications in Sue. Plus: Cameron Kelsall goes behind the scenes of Philly's own Broadway cabaret, and film critic Stephen Silver brings you two new documentaries tackling the Eagles' highlights. Darnelle is also hard at work in the virtual studio, as always, bringing you conversations with the artists behind the world premiere of Plantation Black at InterAct, and more.
I've said it a lot lately, but it probably bears repeating: because independent arts journalism is so challenging to fund nowadays, everyone on our team, including me, are part-timers. Every one of us has to hold down extra jobs while running BSR. It's hectic, to say the least. But we believe in this work, and you prove us right when you support BSR.
