Sometimes it seems like January gets the short end of the stick when it comes to picking themes. I woke up this Monday and segued into the work week like it was nothing—not a pat on the back by any means, it was actually quite strange. Vacation was over and I wasn't as bah-humbug about it as one would expect. In turn, this first week has me feeling like a new year hasn't really begun just yet. Maybe it really hasn't, despite what the calendar says.
Yes, it's a new calendar year. But what will be new for us that will traject us into growth or change? We might have set some goals, expectations, aspirations, or (dare I say) resolutions, and that's great! We can't see how the narrative we imagine early in the year will pan out, and there's so much pressure to grow and thrust ourselves into big change. Ultimately, this makes January a challenging month.
Maybe we need to give ourselves permission to just get through these first weeks before we try to "resolution" ourselves into exhaustion. Take your time, you have 51 more weeks to find what's new in 2023.
In the meantime, check out this month's movie repertory and its first classical music roundup to ease into the new year.
Peace and love to you and yours!
