Lansdowne has always been down for a fight. Believe it or not, the quiet little town right next to us has a long history of fighting for rights (and much more) for the LGBTQIA+ community, and a new exhibit at 20*20 gallery, Homecoming, curates that history for everyone to see. It’s great to have tangible references, art works, and sources that show not only that there is fight within a place, but what the fight looks like. Tangibility makes it feel like possibility.
Tangibility is also important in community. In a world where screens occupy so much of our attention and time, it’s refreshing to come out and see faces physically in front of you instead. Come out to the Arts Affair tonight, there’s still tickets! And you’ll catch some of the BSR folks there as well as others in the arts community in Philadelphia, another group of people ready to fight.
Voting might not feel as tangible, especially when you’re feeling overwhelmingly discouraged and dissuaded by the fast moving ripple effects of last year’s presidential election. But here’s a nudge that there’s an election next week—check out Billy Penn’s procrastinator’s guide if you need to brush up on your candidates. If you have the time, I encourage you to dive a little deeper before you rock the vote on Tuesday.
For the rest of the week, we see the FirstGlance Film Festival return, and we profile the story of a theater artist finally bringing their vision to life on the big screen. We’ve also got this week’s roundup, and plenty more music happening around the city.
Let’s continue to fight back.
