And the new collaborative exhibits at Delaware Art Museum and University of Delaware are showing us those facets. The contributions of a local legend like James E. Newton are evidence that while art is what we make for ourselves as a means of self-expression about our perception of our own worlds, it’s impact once the audience receives it can make a significant imprint on a community.
“He spoke so passionately about artistic creativity being part of him and his life from an early age,” [Margaret Winslow, chief curator and curator of contemporary art at the Delaware Art Museum]recalled. “But, he also was such a nurturing and mentoring individual that they seem so equally important.”
We don’t often tangibly see creative impact. There isn’t a number or an algorithm to measure it. You just have to be there, and that’s the beauty of being in the audience.
Stay creative, Philly!
