Each winter, I count the weeks and days until the Saturday night heading into Daylight Saving Time. I silently cheer on the sun as it disappears a little more slowly each day throughout January and February. I don't know why it makes such a difference to me when the sunset jumps back by an hour, but it does.
This year, my hope is that the longer days and warmer weather help to stir us out of a desperately dark and stressful American winter. I hope we see more marches and demonstrations for justice--for federal workers, for scientists, for women, for immigrants, for trans folks, for educators, for protestors, for journalists, for artists, and for everyone else upholding a society where truth, human rights, and the democratic rule of law matters.
BSR writers keep busy in all seasons, and this week, they took in Martin McDonagh at Irish Heritage Theatre and August Wilson at the Arden, plus the Philadelphia Orchestra (Beethoven's Eroica!) and the Barnes. We've been hard at work planning our BSR Book Week coverage, and our writers are so excited to share their picks with you. (Early summer! Stay tuned!)
