This week, we're happy to head to the National Liberty Museum in Old City, where artists are exploring our First Amendment rights in the Trump era with Word Powered, part of the museum's "Year of Free Speech" initiative. As critic Wendy Rosenfield says, "It's a wild time in our history to declare this a 'Year of Free Speech'."
We're also taking a look at three solo shows on view at The Print Center, which critic Pamela J. Forsythe says will be a big disappointment to anyone who opposes diversity, equity, and inclusion. On the dance front, Melissa Strong reviews the latest from BalletX, and Anndee Hochman speaks with blind journalist and filmmaker David Y. Block about his current projects, including his memoir.
As for everything else... Keep marching in whatever ways you can. We see many members of our community standing up for democracy and equal rights. As the federal government continues to target (or try to erase) immigrants, trans people, Black history, or disabled folks, we're going to keep standing up for the people in our community who need it. We can't have arts coverage without acknowledging human rights.
