Since our readers' support is so crucial to us, we like to let you know how it turned out when we run campaigns to fund our journalism. This summer, we were raising money to support our Fringe Festival coverage, which is the most comprehensive in the city. With a goal of $3,000, we ended up raising $3,487. We wanted to add 30 new or renewed Friends of BSR to the ranks of our core donors, and we reached 29, including six new Local Media Champions! (Friends of BSR make an annual donation of $72 or $6/month, and Local Media Champions make an annual donation of $240 or $20/month.) We also had smaller donors in the mix, who make a huge difference to our small organization.
If you feel inspired to become the 30th Friend and get us to our goal, Neil is your man ([email protected]). You'll be invited to our exclusive September meetup for writers, donors, and community partners.
Outside of our Local Media Champions, the average gift on this campaign was about $56, in line with our spring fundraiser, which was also powered by small individual donations. It means a lot to us that BSR has this kind of grassroots support. We want to continue serving you. And if you haven't given to BSR yet but feel inspired to step up, we have some news coming soon on a major evolution for our team.
This week's stories
Our Fringe previews continue. Don't miss Fringe veteran Sarah Knittel's roundup, which went live earlier this week. I'm also coming to you this week with my own picks. I'm doing things a little differently this year, letting you in on all the shows I have tickets to. Watch that page throughout the fest, because I'll be writing mini-reviews of everything I see, and posting there. Get my recs, or just experience the Fringe vicariously by following along.
This week, I'm also reflecting on the ongoing terror for immigrants in America, and how it ultimately comes for all of us if we don't stand up. I personally have seen ICE abuses hit close to home, and I'm not going to be quiet about it.
Reader updates
In the coming weeks, our newsletter will have an adjusted schedule. Next week, we'll be coming to you on Wednesday morning like usual, but there won't be a Thursday mailer. Instead, we'll hit your inbox on Friday morning, and throughout the rest of the festival, we'll send roundups of our reviews on Tuesday and Friday mornings, since there'll be so many, and we don't want you to miss the shows we feature, especially with those short festival runs. We'd love to know what you're seeing, too!
