Dear BSR Subscriber,
We have two updates just for our Friends this week.
The first is a save-the-date! We’re gathering in person for the first time since 2020, and you’re invited. Put the evening of Wednesday, March 29 on your calendar if you’d like to join us. This will be a private event for our staff, writers, and Friends, with snacks, drinks, and the great conversation that always marks a BSR outing. Look out for details and a link to RSVP in the coming weeks.

Second is a discount offered just to Friends of BSR. You might remember visual art critic Emily B. Schilling’s coverage of Rose B. Simpson: Dream House at the Fabric Workshop and Museum (FWM). On February 12 at 2pm, guest lecturer Sadie Red Wing, a Lakota graphic designer from the Spirit Lake Nation of Fort Totten, North Dakota will explain how design education can support and include tribal visual sovereignty and Indigenous perspectives. Sadie will introduce her research on the origins of Lakota symbols, and share “how symbols reflect and evolve from elements of the landscape,” and how our understanding of place shapes our own visual communication. Guests will have a chance to explore symbols evoking their own lives, and create and take home their own screenprint.

Tickets are $40, but Friends of BSR who register with this link get half off. Space is limited and advance registration is encouraged. To get your $20 tickets, follow the link above (exclusive to BSR Friends) and select “general admission.” Your discount will automatically be added at checkout.
February 12, you might be realizing… yep, that’s the day of the Super Bowl. But this event finishes at 4:30pm, hours before kickoff. And if there’s anyone in the city who enjoys an alternative to football, we figured it might be BSR’s most engaged supporters. Of course, if you are watching the game, enjoy it! You may even see some BSR team members on Broad Street… as always, we love to say hi.
And as always, thanks for supporting BSR. We couldn’t do this work without you. We hope you enjoy this special offer from FWM (here’s that link again), and we hope to see you on March 29!
Enjoy,
Neil, Alaina, Kyle, & Sid
