It's been a cold, dark few months. Here at Broad Street Review we've got our eye on a lot of developing situations, locally as well as nationally. Kidnappings and tear-gassings. Denial of scientific and medical findings. I've personally been disheartened to see bizarre moves by legacy media institutions like The Washington Post, alienating millions of Americans. But what's warmed my heart has been seeing voices rise in the ensuing conversations: collegiality, admiration, and respect. Some of this is coming from cities like Chicago and Baltimore, where I'm learning about musicians and writers from independent media creators. Most importantly to our community though, BSR remains committed to giving Philly's world-class creators the coverage they richly deserve in a way that our local readers and distant friends can enjoy, without a paywall. If you want to hear directly from our team about why this work matters, watch video clips from speeches at our 20th anniversary party. Have you read our review of Sojourner or our review of Good Bones? Are you up-to-date on the National Park Service dismantling signage? What happened with the Mummers recently?
We need your help this February. Our work needs more consistent donations from Friends of BSR with a simple $5-per-month gift. We also invite you to join our Local Media Champions, at the $20-per-month level. We believe our journalism is worth every penny. We love that you're reading our newsletters. Show us a little love.
