You’ve probably noticed that August brings BSR staff a break. You may not know this month also brings editor-in-chief Alaina Johns a birthday.
Alaina’s career has included numerous outlets, and we’re fortunate to have her onboard at BSR. She's been part of our team since 2013. She became editor-in-chief in 2018. In the past year, she's written about local arts funding challenges, the Sixers arena debacle, and the implications of a defunded SEPTA. This doesn't even touch her behind-the-scenes work organizing (then editing!) our writers' pieces and numerous other projects, like ensuring our site's architecture functions smoothly for you. BSR needs individual donations like yours to keep going in 2025 and to support such comprehensive, unparalleled hyperlocal coverage. Make Alaina's birthday a meaningful one with a gift that benefits our entire community.
We’re asking you to celebrate her by becoming a Friend of BSR, with a monthly recurring donation of $5. Friends of BSR receive occasional updates with insights on our coverage, exclusive recommendations from our team, and access to discounts on local events. You can become a Friend of BSR with an automatic monthly donation of $5 or you may make a one-time donation of $60. Step up your giving and become a Local Media Champion: these donors support us with an automatic donation of $20/month.
Neil and Alaina meet up regularly to see shows and meet partner organizations. Teamwork!
