They directly power the work of dozens of local journalists who cover hundreds of artists and institutions each year at BSR—many of whom would be getting no media coverage at all without your support.
We would love to see you virtually or in person at three upcoming events!
Our spring virtual events include a Zoom webinar about review-writing on May 29, where we’ll explore the questions that professional critics ask, and share what really happens after a “bad” review runs. We also welcome book-lovers (and aspiring authors?) to our June 6 publishing panel, also on Zoom, in honor of BSR Book Week (June 2-8). Both of these are free for our Friends: just enter the promo code BSRcomp before you check out on the Eventbrite pages.
And we have an extra benefit to our Friends: you are the only ones who can submit questions in advance! Are you dying to ask the editors or longtime critic Cameron Kelsall something about review-writing? Do you have a burning question for the big-time authors on our publishing panel? Reply to this email and your questions will be first in the queue.
Not free to attend on May 29 or June 6? No problem! Register now, and you will receive a link to view the sessions afterwards.
On to our third event! For the second year, we’re a media partner for the PVLA Arts Affair, an evening of delicious food and drink celebrating local artists, including host Cookie Diorio of the Bearded Ladies Cabaret. We are proud to support the legal professionals who provide pro bono services to the artists who need it most. Get your tickets today, and join the BSR team at this premier Philly arts event on June 5.
On to the giveaways! In honor of BSR Book Week, our community has the opportunity to win a signed copy of Housemates (out May 28), the new novel by Philly’s own Emma Copley Eisenberg (author of The Third Rainbow Girl, a New York Times Notable Book). The giveaway is up on the BSR Instagram account, but we wanted to make sure that any Friends who are not on social media have a chance to win, too. You can do that via this form. We also have a giveaway of Xio Axelrod’s novel Girls with Bad Reputations via an additional form. We will randomly pick a winner for each from all our entrants on June 6, 2024.
Where would you like to see us this summer? What’s on your calendar?
