Guidelines for Arts Groups

So you’d like to be reviewed in Broad Street Review?

Arts presenters often ask us to send a critic to review their performance or exhibit. But unlike conventional mass media, Broad Street Review assigns no reviews or articles. Everything in our arts and culture website consists of unsolicited submissions from our readers, who run the gamut from professional critics to ordinary arts lovers.

Thanks to this idiosyncratic policy, sometimes we’ll post three or four different reviews of the same event — which we think is wonderful. On the other hand, sometimes we’ll post no reviews at all, because none of our contributors knows or cares about the event — which dismays us as much as it does you.

To remedy this situation, we send a weekly newsletter to our contributors about coming events in the Philadelphia area that they might want to write about.

If you’d like to alert BSR writers to a coming event, please send an email to eventinfo@broadstreetreview.com. Put the name of the event in the subject line, and in the body of the email provide the following information:

  • Name of your event
  • Brief description
  • Dates and times
  • Place
  • Contact information for press tickets (name plus e-mail address and/or phone number)

This weekly newsletter goes out on Thursday, so please submit any information by the close of business on Tuesday.

Please note that even if you provide press tickets to one of our writers, this doesn’t guarantee that he or she will write a review, or that we’ll post that review. You’re simply exposing a writer to your work in the hope that he or she will feel inspired to write about it.

If you have any questions about this project — or about Broad Street Review in general — please don’t hesitate to contact us.
